ABOUT EGA |
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. I need a grant. How can you help me? Unfortunately, EGA does not have the capacity to help grantseekers at this time. We suggest you post a profile on our NGO page, and also visit this page of helpful links. 2. How can I become an EGA member? Please check our membership page to learn more about eligibility. Call us at 646.747.2655 for an application. Membership applications are reviewed 3 - 4 times a year at EGA Management Board meetings, and you completed application needs to be received at least a month before the meeting. Our current dues schedule is at the bottom of this page. Dues are on a sliding scale depending on your environmental grants from the previous year. If you are applying for membership, you do not need to send a dues check. We will invoice you if your application is accepted. 4. How can I get access to the Member Area of the website? How is the Member Area used? Staff or trustees from any member foundation can get access to our Member Area. Just fill out the information here in full and wait a day or two for us to approve you. The Member Area is an active database full of links, discussion, and resources from our membership. Contact Rachel at rgoldstein@ega.org if you have suggestions about the Member Area. 5. Can I post something on your website? Yes! Most of our resource pages have a link to use to add information to the page. Your post will get approved in a day or two if it works for our site. We welcome your help in creating a vibrant resource online. 6. How can I get on the listserv? What gets posted on the listserv? Staff or trustees from any member foundation may use our email listserv. Please contact Eric at ewaters@ega.org if you’d like to be added to the list. Our listserv is moderated for sharing information or querying peers about news, events, and other topics, but is not for general discussion (see the message board in the Member Area for this). You will typically get 1 – 3 emails per day. Listserv postings do not necessarily reflect the views of EGA staff, board, or full membership. 7. I have some suggestions for your next Retreat. Who should I contact? The Program Committee (PC) is responsible for creating the Retreat program. You can contact your colleagues who are on the current program committee. See the Member Area / EGA Committees page or the EGA News page for a list of current PC members. We welcome suggestions from our membership. Keep in mind that the PC starts working on the program about a year in advance, and the program is usually finalized by March for the Retreat in the Fall. You can also contact colleagues on the Host Committee for suggestions related to recreation and ‘sense of place.’ There is usually a chance to submit ad hoc sessions closer to the event. 8. How can I get involved in an EGA committee? We’re thrilled to see our members get involved in EGA! Please visit the Member Area / EGA Committees page for more information. 9. Can I come to the EGA Retreat? EGA members can always attend our events. Nonmembers, as longs as they are environmental funders, may attend one Retreat only and then must apply for membership. There are a few exceptions to this rule. Please contact Rachel at for more detailed information. 10. I have some questions about trends and hot topics in environmental grantmaking. Can you help? We are working on this! EGA is working with Resources for Environmental Sustainability to create an online database to “track the field” of environmental funding. Please contact Dana Lanza at with your questions or ideas. 11. How can I contact the Embroiderers’ Guild of America? The website for the other EGA is www.egausa.org. Happy embroidering!
