At the 2025 Fall Retreat in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, EGA honored distinguished members of our community at the third annual EGA awards ceremonies.

As a community focused on our earth home, we are challenged, in these times, to actively connect and reconnect our goals for people and planet to the habits of democracy.

Women and gender-diverse people are leading climate solutions worldwide. Unfortunately, less than 0.1 percent of institutional philanthropy is directed to them.

EGA is pleased to announce an open call for nominations for two member awards. 2025 represents the third annual Donald K. Ross Founders Award and the EGA Risk Taker Award.

EGA President and CEO Tamara Toles O'Laughlin reflects on the resonance of the upcoming twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina amidst our climate disasters and challenges to democracy.

Last September at the 2024 Fall Retreat, EGA launched the Executive Grantmaker Fellowship (EGF) to support foundation presidents and trustees in bridging the gap between leading from the helm and leading from the heart. The vision of this eighteen (18) month, peer learning journey is holistic integration of racial equity into the leadership level of the environmental grantmaking.

It’s the connections with EGFers that are the heart of this experience. My fellow “axe-throwers” (true story!) are strategic, creative, and compassionate, and there is no better group to wrestle with fears and doubts or to lift up hopes and successes.

This Thursday, EGA honors Juneteenth, a national day of remembrance and reflection of the long-fought and hard-won freedom for African Americans that catalyzed intersecting movements for peace, dignity, and justice.
